INTRODUCTION:

Xarelto contains Rivaroxaban an anticoagulant which belongs to a class of medications called factor Xa inhibitors. It works by blocking the action of a certain natural substance that helps blood clots to form.

USES OF THE DRUG:

Rivaroxaban is used to prevent blood clots from forming due to a certain irregular heartbeat (atrial fibrillation) or after hip or knee replacement surgery. In addition, rivaroxaban is used to treat blood clots such as in deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or pulmonary embolus (PE) and to prevent the blood clots from forming again. Rivaroxaban may be used in children to prevent blood clots from forming after a certain heart surgery (Fontan procedure). 

MAIN USES:

Xarelto is used to prevent strokes or serious blood clots in adults who have atrial fibrillation, to prevent deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism in adults who are having hip replacement or knee replacement surgery. Xarelto may be given to reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events (such as death, a heart attack, or a stroke) in people with long-term coronary artery disease or peripheral arterial disease.

SIDE EFFECTS:

Back pain, bleeding gums, tingling feelings, coughing up blood, difficulty with breathing or swallowing, dizziness, headache, increased menstrual flow or vaginal bleeding, leg weakness, nosebleeds, numbness, paralysis, prolonged bleeding from cuts, red or black, tarry stools, red or dark brown urine, vomiting of blood or material that looks like coffee grounds.
